Kandhari is the pomegranate worth waiting for and the reason Balochistan's highland anar has the reputation it does. The fruit is heavy for its size with thick leathery skin, and the arils run so deep a red they read almost black. Behind the sweetness is a genuine tartness that the softer commercial varieties have lost. The seed inside the aril is hard — that is the variety.
